We also conduct on-ground activities with our horses as the teachers. We learn how horses communicate which helps our students build confidence, focus, leadership, and listening skills.
At Saddle Book Academy we start with a one-on-one consultation to learn more about each student and what their likes and dislikes are. We also have a diagnostic test that will help us to design a customized learning program in order to ensure success for each student.

Communication between teachers and parents is paramount to creating a successful program. We communicate throughout the process with parents, providing updates and feedback on their child's progress. With parental permission, we touch base with the student's classroom teachers to ensure success.
This is what really sets us apart as a great after-school program in Purcellville! Our enrichment activities are math and science based and are conducted with our horses. We learn about proportions and stride length, percentages of body weight consumed each day, budgeting for horse ownership, angles of conformation, anatomy and physiology of a horse, etc. All of our enrichment activities are aligned to the Virginia SOL's for 5th-8th grade students. These activities help our students to apply the skills they are learning in a real setting. There is no better way to learn than by doing!
Experience with horses is not necessary. Our program is designed for the beginner to intermediate rider. All of our horses are great with children and our lessons focus on fundamentals and safety. Each student progresses at their own pace, demonstrating mastery before moving to the next level. Our students gain confidence and communication skills from their very first encounter.
